So many people will tell you that hip hop music is born out of poetry, and for many of us our journey into poetry started at hip hop.

Join Casey Bailey, Jordvn Emanuel and Zakariye for an afternoon of poetry, music and a panel discussion. All the words in all the ways in Wolverhampton.

Casey Bailey is an award winning writer performer and educator from Nechells, Birmingham. the Birmingham Poet Laureate 2020-2022 is also known to turn his pen to hip hop, grime and theatre.

Birmingham-born wordsmith Jordvn Emanuel isn’t your typical UK rapper. With origins in spoken word and performance poetry, Jordvn was crowned Young Poet Laureate of Birmingham in 2011. Growing over time, Jordvn began to gravitate towards hip-hop and soul music and started to write and create a sound that was reminiscent of the 90’s “Boom Bap” era.

Zakariye is a poet, performer, playwright and filmmaker from Birmingham. His work often explores masculinity, faith and identity. His short poetry film ‘Cages’ has been broadcast on BBC 4 and BBC iPlayer. Last year saw him reach the finals at the Roundhouse Poetry Slam where he won the audience vote. He is currently a Roundhouse resident artist.
