IST IST’s Light a Bigger Fire Ignites the UK Music Scene
Manchester-based post-punk band IST IST has returned with their fourth studio album, Light a Bigger Fire, released on 20th September 2024. The album, which has reached number 25 on the UK album charts, has been widely praised for its bold sound and emotional depth. With brooding basslines, punchy synths, and Adam Houghton’s commanding vocals, the album explores new sonic territory while retaining the dark intensity that defines their style.
According to Louder Than War, “All the band’s classic hallmarks are still in place, from the melancholic bass lines, to the washes of atmospheric keyboards shackled to the tightest drums, the chiming guitar shapes and the baritone vocals and yet reshaped to reach out from beyond the cult.” The review also highlights the band’s ambition, noting how they have expanded their sound while still keeping it rooted in the atmospheric, gothic textures that their fanbase loves.
LiveWire Music adds that the album “sits on it’s own as something very very special, and is a contender for album of the year” and credits IST IST for their ability to incorporate more accessible elements without losing their distinctive dark edge. Tracks such as “Hope to Love Again” are seen as proof of the band’s growing emotional range!
IST IST is now bringing Light a Bigger Fire to life on stage, embarking on a UK tour that is already drawing rave reviews for its immersive energy and hypnotic atmosphere. Fans in Wolverhampton will have the chance to catch them live on 9th October at the Newhampton Arts Centre. Known for their electrifying performances, IST IST’s gigs are not to be missed, especially as they showcase an album that is pushing the boundaries of their genre.
